Opinions on the 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships

Excitement for the Premier Pickleball Tournament in Colorado

The 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships is set to be an exciting event, welcoming players from Colorado and across the country to the region’s premier pickleball tournament. As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, this tournament is fully sanctioned by USA Pickleball, ensuring that every match is officiated and run efficiently by the PT Pro team. With skill levels ranging from 3.0 to 5.0, the tournament will use the UTPR for player rating and seeding placement.

New Additions: Team Challenge Event

One of the exciting additions to this year’s tournament is the introduction of team challenge competitions. Teams will compete for cash prizes, and each division will consist of four players (2 men, 2 women) who are registered in the tournament. The team brackets will be divided into two age groups, 18-59 and 60+, and each age group will have two skill levels, 4.0 and below, and 4.5 to 5.0. It’s important to note that these events are non-sanctioned and will not affect players’ UTPR or WPR.

Tournament Format and Match Rules

The tournament format for the Rocky Mountain Championships is double elimination with a come-around. This means that even if a team loses a match, they still have a chance to win the gold by coming up through the consolation bracket. Additionally, there is a minimum requirement of five teams for all events, and events will be combined if there are less than five teams registered in a bracket. However, combining events will not change the scheduled day of play. Medals will be awarded to winners of the original bracket levels.

Main draw matches will consist of a best-of-three game format, with each game played to 11 points, winning by 2 points. Consolation matches will consist of one game played to 15 points, also winning by 2 points. For divisions with five teams, a round-robin format will be used, and winners will be determined by matches won head-to-head and point differential. In cases of inclement weather or scheduling delays, match formats may be shortened.

Refund and Inclement Weather Policies

The tournament has a no-refund policy, with a cancellation deadline of June 10th, 2023. Players who withdraw before the deadline will receive a refund of all fees paid, minus a $25 cancellation fee. However, no refunds or credits will be given after the cancellation deadline, unless players have purchased a registration weather insurance policy from Rocky Mountain Pickleball. The tournament’s inclement weather policy states that every effort will be made to ensure that scheduled matches are played, but if weather conditions prevent play, the tournament’s decision will be final.

The 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships promises to be an exciting event for pickleball enthusiasts. With a fully sanctioned tournament, competitive team challenges, and a variety of skill levels, players from across the United States are eagerly looking forward to the championships. The tournament’s organizers have put thought into the format and rules, ensuring that matches are fair and enjoyable. As the tournament approaches, players should take note of the refund and inclement weather policies to plan accordingly. Overall, the 2023 Rocky Mountain Championships is set to be a highlight of the pickleball calendar.
